PACI supports the Molokai Hoe
The Molokai Hoe is the “world series” of long distance outrigger canoe paddling and is held every year in October. Teams from all over the world come to Hawaii to compete in the 41 mile race from Molokai to Waikiki on Oahu.
Pacific Air Charters was privileged provide air transportation to a number of the teams competing in the year’s race held on October 12th. In fact, three of the teams that we flew to Molokai finished in the top 20 out of the field of 105 teams.
Team New Caledonia finished 14th overall, Mooloolaba of Queensland finished 19th and California/Hawaii finished 20th. In the Masters 40 division Mooloolaba finished 2nd and California/Hawaii finished 3rd. We were also honored to provide transportation for the Kamehameha Oahu teams.
Pacific Air Charters sends congratulations to these crews for their performance and looks forward to being of service for next year’s race.
April 2008-Christmas Island/Palmyra atoll flights
When The Nature Conservancy's normal chrater contractor's aircraft lost an engine it stranded 12 visitors on Palmyra Atoll which is an oceanographic research base situated about 900 miles south of Honolulu. The Nature Conservancy asked Pacific Air Charters to fly down to Chtristmas Island, where aviation gas is available, and to shuttle the 12 stranded passengers between Palmyra Atoll and Christmas Island, a diistance of about 360 nautical miles. Christmas Island is located just north of the equator and is part of the Nation of Kirabas. PACI developed a plan to to put an extra fuel tank (a ferry tank) aboard one of it's Cessna 421 aircraft to give it the range to fly to Christmas. After receiving special FAA approval to make the flight a two man crew took off in the early hours of April 23rd on a flight to Christmas Island. They arrived safely the next morning and after crew rest and refueling they flew two shuttle missions to evacuate the 12 stranded visitors from Palmyra back to Christmas Island. The Nature Conservancy then arranged to have a chartered jet pick up the visitors and return them to Honolulu. PACI's Cessna returned to Honolulu with the thanks of The Nature Conservancy and the visitors after a mission very well flown.
